Time:2025-05-26

The inaugural Peking University Medical Technology Summit Forum and Summer Camp was successfully held at the Health Science Center from June 30 to July 1, 2019. A total of 51 outstanding students from 17 provinces and municipalities across China participated in the two-day event. The camp was organized by 25 graduate supervisors from the Medical Technology program, along with eight incoming graduate students from the class of 2019. The event was hosted by the Medical Technology Development and Research Center of the Health Science Center, with the opening ceremony and summit forum chaired by Gao Song and Lei Jianbo, respectively.

At the opening ceremony, Professor Han Hongbin, speaking on behalf of the Medical Technology faculty, warmly welcomed the first cohort of participants from across the country. He introduced the background, current status, and academic team of the Medical Technology discipline at Peking University, and elaborated on its unique characteristics and talent development strategies in the context of major national research initiatives led by the faculty. He encouraged the students to commit themselves to the medical profession and aspire to become well-rounded future leaders who will help shape the development of medical science.

Following the opening remarks, experts from various subdisciplines - Zhang Luxia (Institute of Health Big Data), Yuan Lan (Pharmaceutical Analysis Center), Liu Yudong and Wang Cui (First Hospital), Gao Xianshu and Wang Kai (People’s Hospital), and Zhang Xuehui (School of Stomatology) - presented the strengths, faculty teams, and research achievements of their respective departments.

During the camp, academic leaders and faculty from subdisciplines including Medical Imaging Technology, Radiation Therapy Physics, Optometry, Stomatological Medical Technology, and Health Data Science organized campus tours and lab visits. The students expressed strong appreciation for the camp’s thoughtful planning and rich content. They unanimously agreed that the short yet intensive experience allowed them to gain a solid understanding of the history, academic positioning, and development of the Medical Technology discipline at Peking University, while also deepening their awareness of the university’s national responsibilities in medical education and innovation.

In 2019, over 40 graduate students were enrolled as the first cohort in the Medical Technology discipline and began their studies in September. In addition to showcasing the program’s faculty, research strengths, teaching quality, and academic achievements to top undergraduates eligible for recommendation-based admission, faculty members also discussed key issues related to managing the incoming graduate cohort under current conditions.
