Ⅴ. Peking University Institute of Medical Technology Successfully Concludes 2020 National Outstanding Undergraduates Summer Camp
Time:2025-05-26The 2020 National Outstanding Undergraduates Summer Camp, hosted by the Institute of Medical Technology at Peking University Health Science Center, was successfully held from July 21 to 22. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the camp was conducted fully online. A total of 76 outstanding students from 13 provinces and municipalities across China participated in the two-day event.
Organized by the Institute, the camp featured contributions from 26 graduate student supervisors and 18 teaching faculty members representing the secondary subdisciplines of Medical Technology. Current graduate students also supported the event by coordinating preparations and facilitating interactive “cloud-based” activities. The opening ceremony and faculty introductions were co-hosted by Associate Dean Gao Song and Liu Yinghui from the Teaching Office.
During the opening ceremony, Professor Han Hongbin, speaking on behalf of the Institute and its faculty mentors, extended a warm welcome to the participants and shared high expectations for their development. He provided a comprehensive overview of the establishment of the Medical Technology discipline at Peking University, including its historical background, educational philosophy, distinctive features, societal impact, current development, and faculty composition. Highlighting major national research projects undertaken by the mentor team, he emphasized the discipline’s strengths and training model. He encouraged participants to dedicate themselves to the medical profession, embrace responsibility, aim high while staying grounded, confront challenges with courage, and integrate personal aspirations into the nation’s public health mission - striving to become future leaders in Medical Technology who embody both competence and integrity. He also expressed the Institute’s goal of integrating emerging technologies with traditional medicine to cultivate interdisciplinary leaders in the evolving landscape of healthcare.
Following this, graduate program adviser Tian Feng introduced the camp guidelines and provided a brief overview of the schedule. Faculty members representing different subdisciplines - including Dr. Wang Hui (Clinical Laboratory), Dr. Wu Hao (Radiation Oncology), Dr. Peng Zisu (Ophthalmology), Dr. Wang Ninghua (Rehabilitation), Associate Professor Wang Yuguang (Stomatology), Professor Du Jian (Big Data), and Professor He Bei (Respiratory Medicine) - gave presentations on their teams’ academic focus, research directions, achievements, international collaborations, and career development opportunities. These sessions offered participants a broad understanding of the discipline’s positioning, historical development, training support systems, and its contributions to national healthcare strategies.
In the afternoon, faculty mentors presented their individual research topics and accomplishments. Presenters included Professor Han Hongbin, Professor Gao Song, Lecturer Yang Jing (on behalf of Professor Du Jichen), Associate Professor Luo Jiajia (Biomedical Engineering), Lecturer Zhang Yawei (on behalf of Director Wang Hui), Associate Professor Shu Shaokun (Biomedical Engineering), Professor Zhou Mouwang (Rehabilitation), Dr. Wang Meng (on behalf of Professor Shen Ning), Mr. Sun Xiaoyu (on behalf of Professor Zhang Luxia), Associate Professor Wang Yuguang (Stomatology), Associate Director Wu Hao (Radiation Oncology), and Associate Professor Wang Kai (Ophthalmology). Each presented on their “Research Directions and Achievements” showcasing the Institute’s academic and scientific excellence.
The closing address was delivered by Professor Li Hui, Party Branch Secretary of the Institute. She warmly welcomed the students, elaborated on the Institute’s educational vision, academic resources, and institutional culture, and expressed her sincere hopes for the participants’ future development.
On the second day, each secondary subdiscipline hosted virtual Q&A breakout sessions, enabling in-depth interaction between students and faculty. These sessions provided an excellent platform for dialogue and mutual understanding, strengthening connections between mentors and participants.
