Introduction of Intelligent Medical Imaging Center, National Institute of Healthcare Big Data, Peking University

Time:2025-06-05

Positioning and Objectives

The Center for Intelligent Medical Imaging at Peking University's National Institute for Big Data in Healthcare aims to provide a research platform for researchers in mathematics, physics, engineering, computer science, information science, biology, medicine, and industry, and to promote research and exchanges on intelligent medical imaging technologies, biomedical image analysis, and assisted diagnosis under the auspices of big data. The center plans to carry out research on intelligent medical imaging platforms and application technologies, with special emphasis on joint analysis of imaging data with clinical multi-omics data and electronic medical record data, and to develop and promote intelligent medical imaging systems for major diseases such as cardiovascular, cerebrovascular, and oncology.

Research Areas and Directions

Medical image reconstruction;

Storage and preprocessing of medical images;

Cross-scale multimodal biomedical image segmentation, alignment and fusion based on deep learning;

Artificial intelligence technology and general technology and application system for medical image intelligent assisted diagnosis;

National standards for each of the above technologies and systems

Basis of work

Peking University has successfully applied for the only project in the biomedical sector among the 10 major national scientific infrastructures in the 13th Five-Year Plan: the National Large Facility for Multimodal Cross-Scale Biomedical Imaging. The facility is divided into four devices, and our project team is responsible for the construction of Device 4: Intelligent Imaging Big Data Analysis and Fusion Device, in which the intelligent medical image assisted diagnosis system occupies a great proportion. During the past 3 years of project initiation, feasibility study and pre-study, an experienced and cross-disciplinary team has been formed, including experts from multiple disciplines such as mathematics, information science, data science and clinicians, etc., and a mature idea has been gradually formed on the research and development of intelligent medical image assisted diagnosis. Last year, our team successfully applied for the project “Research and Development of Clinical Decision Support System for Precision Medicine” under the National “Precision Medicine” Key Research and Development Program, of which the intelligent medical image assisted diagnosis system is one of the main components. At present, the implementation of the project is going smooth
