Based on the current status of faculty and newly recruited talent applications for this year’s internal funding programs, the Institute of Medical Technology held a dedicated guidance session on February 23 in preparation for submissions to the Information Science Division of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC).

The meeting invited Prof. Junle Qu, Dean of the School of Optoelectronic Engineering at Shenzhen University, and Dr. Weiguo Xu, former Associate Editor of China Science Foundation, the journal of the NSFC. The session was attended throughout by Dean Hongbin Han and Associate Dean Song Gao of the Institute of Medical Technology. Over 50 participants joined, including all faculty members of the Institute, members from the Institute of Health Big Data, the interdisciplinary Department of Biomedical Engineering, as well as mentors, postdoctoral researchers, and prospective recruits from affiliated hospitals. The meeting was chaired by Associate Dean Xunbin Wei.

Zhou Liang, Chen Qingchao, Hao Jianguo, Wang Fei, and prospective recruit Lu Yanye gave presentations, and the invited experts provided targeted one-on-one guidance and patiently addressed questions from attending faculty. In light of the specific needs of applicants, especially those returning from overseas studies, Associate Dean Wei provided additional coaching on proposal writing techniques and fundamental requirements. He gave a detailed explanation of key elements in proposal writing, common pitfalls, and important points to note. Further sessions will be organized to support proposals to other NSFC divisions, including those in medical sciences and mathematics, with the aim of achieving strong results in the 2022 research funding cycle.
