Peking University Medical Technology 2024 National Outstanding College Students Summer Camp was successfully held

The National Summer Camp for Outstanding College Students of Peking University Institute of Medical Technology was successfully held from July 1 to 2, 2024. The summer camp was mainly carried out in the form of meetings, visits and discussions. Through face-to-face communication, the campers truly felt the development potential of Peking University's medical technology disciplines, and gained an in-depth understanding of the college's development plans, cutting-edge scientific research, and talent training layout. The purpose of this summer camp is to provide campers from various universities with a platform to understand the cutting-edge hotspots in the development of medical technology disciplines, Peking University Medicine's layout and development plans in medical engineering and technology disciplines, cutting-edge scientific research, and talent training. More than 60 campers from different majors from 33 universities across the country participated in this summer camp. Through this summer camp, the campers' interest and enthusiasm in scientific research were stimulated, and they explored cutting-edge scientific research results and development trends in the field of medical technology.

On the morning of July 1st, the Medical Technology Summer Camp was officially opened. The opening ceremony was hosted by Liu Yinghui, a teacher from the Teaching Office of the Medical Technology Research Institute. First, Academician Han Hongbin, Dean of the Peking University Medical Technology Research Institute, delivered a speech and gave a report on medical technology at Peking University. Dean Han Hongbin, on behalf of all the teachers and students of the Peking University Medical Technology Research Institute, welcomed the students to the camp. He started with the history of the construction and development of my country's medical technology discipline, and introduced the achievements of Peking University's medical technology discipline in scientific and technological innovation, project construction, achievements and transformation, base construction, and serving national strategies; pointed out that Peking University's medical technology discipline is currently the only medical technology discipline selected as a national double first-class discipline in China, and has many internationally leading and domestically leading research directions. He encouraged students to review the difficult history of my country's scientific and technological innovation through the summer camp, keep in mind the important historical mission of cultivating high-end leading talents for the country's independent innovation of high-end medical equipment, and continuously promote the concept of cross-integration of medicine, science, and engineering, and contribute young people to the country's high-level independent innovation and development in the new era.

Teachers from medical imaging technology, medical laboratory technology, rehabilitation therapy, respiratory therapy, clinical nutrition, optometry, health data science and medical engineering technology introduced their majors. Researcher Xie Zhaoheng introduced the high-end medical equipment technology cluster and its subordinate fields. Through the development of high-end medical imaging engineering technology such as brain imaging technology, in-depth exploration of brain ultrastructure, lymphoid and cellular molecular mechanisms, and the development of molecular imaging technology, it has successfully built a characteristic and advantageous professional cluster that serves the country's major strategic needs; Associate Researcher An Haoran introduced the development background, research direction and teaching and training of the medical laboratory technology and precision medicine cluster, and said that laboratory technology not only plays an important role in the diagnosis and treatment monitoring, prognosis evaluation and prevention of diseases, but also plays an important role in the treatment of diseases before they occur. The integrated undergraduate, master and doctoral education talent training system of laboratory medicine has provided students with a broad development platform; Associate Researcher Kong Guilan of the National Institute of Health and Medical Big Data of Peking University gave a detailed introduction to the achievements of the National Institute of Health and Medical Big Data and the health data science major and health data science faculty; Associate Professor Ye Hongqiang introduced the medical engineering technology and high-value consumables cluster, and medical engineering technology is a necessary way to improve the level and quality of oral medical technical talents in my country.

Then, Liu Yinghui, the teacher of the teaching office, introduced the schedule and precautions of the summer camp to the students one by one. Campers from different universities across the country spoke enthusiastically in the ice-breaking session, showing their personal style through self-introductions, and also discussed relevant issues with teachers in various fields.

After the successful conclusion of the opening ceremony, on the afternoon of July 1, during the visit to the medical technology research and teaching platform, the campers visited the college's medical imaging instrument development platform, optical imaging platform, mass spectrometry detection platform, and health data platform. The independent research and development of the medical technology innovation platform involves detection and analysis of different scales from viruses, fungi, bacteria, cell microenvironment, cells, tissues to the body, and carries out internationally leading cutting-edge technology research and development in multiple directions of medical equipment, IVD and high-value consumables. While providing research tools and technologies for multiple disciplines in medicine, pharmaceuticals, nursing, and health, it also provides core support for the downstream of the industrial chain for the high-level self-reliance and independent innovation development of my country's medical equipment industry. The experts patiently answered the campers' questions and helped them have a deeper and more intuitive understanding of the research hotspots and cutting-edge discoveries in the field of medical technology.

The two-day summer camp ended successfully. This event not only showcased the research findings of the Institute of Medical Technology in the field of medical technology, but also provided a platform for students to gain an in-depth understanding of the forefront of medical technology. Through such exchanges and interactions, the campers not only broadened their horizons, but also stimulated their love and desire to explore the field of medical technology. In the future, the Peking University Institute of Medical Technology will continue to be committed to research and innovation in the field of medical technology, cultivate more outstanding medical technology talents, internalize the Healthy China strategy and the "four aspects" as the fundamental principles for talent training, and contribute to the development of my country's medical and health industry. I believe that the future of the field of medical technology will be even more brilliant!
