At noon on February 22, 2022, the collective teaching preparation meeting for the spring semester of the undergraduate program in medical technology was held in the conference room of the Institute of Medical Technology, Health Science Center. The meeting was attended by Dean Prof. Hongbin Han, Associate Dean Prof. Song Gao, Party Secretary Prof. Hui Li, undergraduate class advisor Ms. Nannan Zhang, course instructors for the semester, all faculty members of the Institute, and student representatives. The session was chaired by Ms. Yinghui Liu from the Teaching Office.
Dean Hongbin Han began by introducing the disciplinary features and historical development of medical technology. He emphasized that, under the national strategy of advancing high-level independent innovation in medical equipment and technology, medical technology—one of the four pillars of modern hospital construction alongside medicine, nursing, and pharmacy—should play a key role in training leading talents for the revitalization of the high-end medical technology industry. Referring to the strategic planning laid out by Academician Qimin Zhan, Chair of the Academic Committee of Medical Technology, and aligning with the current educational reform led by the Ministry of Education, Dean Han elaborated on the fundamental principles and goals for talent cultivation in this field. He highlighted the development focus on four academic clusters: Clinical Laboratory Science (led by Hui Wang), Health Data Science (led by Luxia Zhang), Dental Technology (led by Yongsheng Zhou), and High-Value Medical Consumables & Advanced Medical Equipment (led by Dean Han himself). These clusters are identified as the core directions for undergraduate training and career development in the medical technology discipline.
Before the group preparation, Ms. Liu introduced the student composition of the 2021 cohort of undergraduate medical technology majors. She explained the curriculum structure for the first and second semesters of the general education phase in the first academic year, along with the four-year training schedule. Following this, instructors Jun Wu, Xin Wang, Jing Wang, Huiying Qi, Shuo Li, and Hui Li presented and discussed the teaching hours, course features, educational goals, and instructional approaches for the courses Histology and Embryology, Organic Chemistry, University Calculus, Physiology, and Physics. Student representatives Teng'ao Gao (class president) and Ziyue Su (academic committee member) also joined the discussions.
This collective teaching preparation meeting clarified the educational objectives and key tasks for the spring semester, laying a solid foundation for the successful implementation of teaching and research activities. In conclusion, Dean Han asked student representatives to convey the core takeaways of the meeting to their classmates and encouraged them to build a solid foundation in undergraduate courses, emphasizing balanced and holistic development. He also encouraged instructors to strengthen the development of course content aligned with the discipline of medical technology, enhance cooperation among teaching faculty through collective preparation, and work together to cultivate urgently needed high-level professionals in the field.
