Recently, the first working meeting of the National Medical Technology Professional Degree Graduate Education Steering Committee (hereinafter referred to as the "Teaching Steering Committee") in 2024 was held at the School of Medicine of Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

The meeting was chaired by Fan Xianqun, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, vice president of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, dean of the School of Medicine of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and chairman of the Teaching and Research Committee. Shang Hong, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, vice chairman of the Teaching and Research Committee, Han Hongbin, vice chairman of the Teaching and Research Committee, Zheng Hairong, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, member of the Teaching and Research Committee, Zheng Yuanyi, secretary-general of the Teaching and Research Committee, and members Yu Chunshui, Wang Shukui, Lv Bin, Li Zhiyong, Zhuo Yehong, Xu Yingchun, and Qu Jia attended the meeting. Mou Shan, vice dean of the School of Medicine of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Hu Yiqun, dean of the School of Medical Technology, and Dong Yan, executive vice dean of the Graduate School, attended the meeting and participated in the discussion. The theme of this meeting is to accelerate the construction of new medical sciences, jointly promote the integrated high-level development of medical technology graduate education, science and technology, and talents, and create a high-quality medical technology talent training system.

On behalf of the School of Medicine and the Teaching and Research Committee of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Dean Fan Xianqun extended a warm welcome to the participating members and stressed that the CPC Central Committee and the State Council attach great importance to graduate work and the cultivation of high-level talents. He pointed out that medical technology is the core driving force of medical development, a bridge for clinicians to obtain patient information and implement treatment measures, and an important link between basic science and clinical medicine. Cultivating high-level compound medical technology talents is a responsibility and commitment to proactively face the people's life and health, face the national strategic needs, and connect with the "Healthy China 2030" Outline. It is hoped that all members will gather wisdom and consensus for the innovative development of medical technology under the leadership of the "New Medical Science" and make new and greater contributions to the construction of a healthy China.

Vice Chairman Professor Han Hongbin pointed out that Peking University School of Medicine has completed the master's and doctoral programs in medical technology, and the relevant experience will effectively promote the work of the National Teaching Committee.

Wang Zhen, Deputy Director and Vice Chairman of the Equipment Industry Department of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, delivered a video speech, affirming the important role of medical technology in the health and wellness industry. He pointed out that my country's medical equipment industry is at an important juncture of transformation from big to strong and climbing over hurdles. The construction of high-end talents is particularly important. The establishment of the Teaching Guidance Committee by the Ministry of Education is of great significance. The convening of the meeting will play a positive role in promoting the work.

Secretary-General Zheng Yuanyi gave a detailed report on the recent work summary and future work plans of the Teaching and Research Committee, and the members studied the "Degree Law of the People's Republic of China" together.

Academician Shang Hong, Academician Zheng Hairong, and Vice Chairman Han Hongbin presided over three thematic discussions on "Professional degree graduate training program, core courses and paper requirements", "Professional degree discipline development" and "Professional degree graduate online demonstration course construction work". The experts at the meeting had a heated discussion on the main problems facing medical education and expressed their insights, showing the characteristics and advantages of each school in cultivating medical talents in different disciplines, as well as their thoughts and practices in improving the quality of medical talent training. It provided guidance for promoting medical education reform, innovating and empowering to help the sustainable development of disciplines, and laid a solid foundation for the smooth development of the follow-up work of the Teaching Guidance Committee.
