Seminar on Education and Teaching Practices Convened by the Institute of Medical Technology

At the beginning of the new year, everything takes on a fresh look, on January 3, 2025, Wang Junwei, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Committee of the Health Science Center, led a delegation to conduct an on-site inspection and provide guidance on talent cultivation at the Institute of Medical Technology. Key university officials and the full staff of the institute participated in the symposium, which focused on enhancing educational practices and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration .The meeting was hosted by Cheng Fangxiao, Director of Academic Affairs at the institute.

Dean Han Hongbin first gave a comprehensive overview of the Institute of Medical Technology, tracing the development of Peking University's "Double First-Class" discipline and professional doctoral program in medical technology. He emphasized the institute's founding mission and vision, highlighted its pilot initiatives in talent cultivation aligned with national major frontier projects, and reported on the initial outcomes achieved. He also outlined the institute’s key priorities and strategic tasks for 2025.

Secretary Li Hui introduced the structure and development of the joint Party branch, student Party branch, and Youth League branch of the Institute, highlighting their key initiatives and co-construction efforts. Emphasizing the principle of “Moral education first, convincing people with virtue,” he described how these organizations support student development. Vice Dean Gao Song provided a thorough report on the institute’s teaching activities, including curriculum integration, undergraduate reform, international exchanges, integrated degree training, and graduate teaching conditions. Director Cheng Fangxiao summarized student affairs, highlighting achievements, emergency responses, and future priorities.

During the discussion session, participants actively shared insights and suggestions. Deputy Director Liu Fang proposed creating research assistant positions to ease employment pressure. Deputy Director Zheng Lingbing emphasized ensuring safety and aligning student affairs with the program's features. Dean Xu Ming called for aligning talent training with national strategies, optimizing subject evaluations and industry partnerships. Director Liu Hong highlighted leveraging strengths in science and engineering education. Director Yu Liqiong advocated improving student-mentor dynamics. Director Guo Qi praised the institute's reforms and urged consolidating systems, strengthening faculty, and strategic talent development.

Vice Secretary Wang Junwei congratulated the Institute of Medical Technology on its achievements over the past five years and provided strategic guidance for future development. He emphasized the importance of refining student support services, especially during winter break, and called for the steady implementation of the “one student, one policy” employment strategy. He also advocated for stronger financial aid distribution, deeper engagement through the “Three In” program (into classrooms, dormitories, and cafeterias), and a caring, student-centered approach to talent cultivation aligned with national “Double First-Class” academic goals.

This symposium served as a pivotal opportunity for the Institute of Medical Technology to reflect on its past and envision its future. It comprehensively showcased the Institute’s outstanding achievements over the past five years in education, Party and youth organization development, scientific innovation, and student affairs. It also offered a candid assessment of current challenges. Through collective discussion, the path forward was clarified—ranging from strengthening student management and interdisciplinary integration to refining training systems, enhancing faculty, deepening industry collaboration, and reinforcing Party building—laying a strong foundation for cultivating future medical technology talent.
