On December 6, 2024, a delegation from the School of Medical and Social Sciences of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) visited Peking University Health Science Center. Both parties held a seminar to discuss cooperation in the development of the medical technology discipline and talent cultivation. The delegation included Professor Cen Haoqiang, Dean of the School of Medical and Social Sciences, Professor Cai Jing, Associate Dean, Professor Ye Sheping, Head of the Department of Medical Technology and Information, and Assistant Professor Li Tian from PolyU. Attendees from Peking University included Liu Hong, Director of the Education Office, Li Xiaojia, Deputy Director of the Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan Office, Han Hongbin, Dean of the Institute of Medical Technology, Li Hui, Party Secretary, Gao Song, Deputy Dean, as well as representatives from the Department of Laboratory Medicine at Peking University First Hospital, the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Rehabilitation at Peking University Third Hospital, and other related departments, totaling over 20 participants. The meeting was chaired by Researcher Xie Zhaoheng from the Peking University Institute of Medical Technology.

The meeting commenced with a welcome address by Dean Han Hongbin, who extended a warm reception on behalf of the faculty and students to the delegation from the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. In his remarks, Dean SHAM Ho Keung expressed the hope that both institutions would continue to strengthen collaboration based on existing partnerships, leveraging complementary strengths to advance talent cultivation and joint academic development. Director Liu Hong emphasized the importance of effectively integrating the strengths of both parties to enhance the construction of disciplinary and talent development systems.

Vice Dean Cai Jing, Vice Dean Gao Song, and Researcher Xie Zhaoheng each provided an overview of their respective institutions and outlined prospective plans for academic collaboration and joint research initiatives.

Professor Cai Jing, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, presented the undergraduate talent cultivation system of the Faculty, sharing insights into the philosophy and approaches to training professionals in medical technology. Professor Gao Song, Vice Dean of the Institute of Medical Technology at Peking University Health Science Center, introduced the historical development and current undergraduate training system of Peking University's medical technology program, reviewed previous exchanges between the two institutions, and expressed expectations for future collaboration. Researcher Xie Zhaoheng outlined the main framework for joint research project applications, and both sides engaged in in-depth discussions on potential collaboration in areas such as medical imaging technology, laboratory medicine, optometry, and rehabilitation therapy.

The two parties engaged in collaborative discussions and conducted a campus tour of the institute.

Prof. Liu Hong, Director of the Office of Educational Affairs at Peking University Health Science Center, concluded the meeting by expressing anticipation for deeper collaboration between the two institutions in jointly developing curricular systems and research cooperation platforms. Li Xiaojia, Deputy Director of the Office for Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs, emphasized the importance of identifying key areas for future exchange, gradually expanding the scope of cooperation, and finalizing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote sustained academic exchange. Following the meeting, Dean Han Hongbin led the PolyU delegation on a tour of the teaching laboratories at the Institute of Medical Technology, where he introduced the institute’s teaching and research teams and demonstrated core instructional equipment and their applications.

During the meeting, both parties engaged in in-depth discussions on various aspects, including research collaboration, talent development, discipline construction, and exchange visits. They extensively explored future cooperation directions and reached numerous agreements. Both sides are committed to continuing their exchanges and cooperation, working together to contribute to the advancement of medical technology.
