Peking University Medical Technology 2022 National Outstanding College Students Summer Camp was successfully held from July 11th to 12th, 2022. The summer camp received more than 200 applications from 142 colleges and universities across the country, and attracted outstanding students with backgrounds in communication engineering, optical engineering, software engineering, physics, mathematics, pharmacy, automation, materials engineering, statistics and other disciplines, in addition to medical majors. After layers of selection, 70 outstanding undergraduates stood out to participate in this online summer camp together.

On the morning of July 11, the summer camp was officially opened. Academician Zhan Qimin, Chairman of the Academic Committee of Institute of Medical Technology, President Han Hongbin, Secretary Li Hui, Vice President Wei Xunbin of Institute of Medical Technology, Vice President Shen Ning of Beihang Medical College, Secretary Zhou Yongsheng of BeihangStomatological Hospital, and leaders of each secondary discipline of medical technology and representatives of tutors were invited to attend the opening ceremony, which was presided over by Vice President Gao Song.

Academician Zhan Qimin said in his speech, “The construction of medical technology disciplines is highly compatible with the national strategy of Healthy China and scientific and technological innovation, aiming to cultivate high-end leading talents who will lead the future development of medical technology, and to support the cause of socialist medicine with Chinese characteristics and the modernization of hospitals in the new era.” Academician Zhan introduced Peking University in the national ranking of soft science this year Peking University Medicine contributed 10 A+ disciplines, of which medical technology occupies 4 seats, reflecting the strong strength of Peking University Medical Technology, he encouraged students to fully understand Peking University Medicine, Peking University's excellent team of instructors and cutting-edge disciplinary direction of medical technology, to find the best path suitable for their future development, and to realize the value of their lives.

Dean Han Hongbin introduced to the campers the development history of Peking University's medical technology discipline, he pointed out that: “Peking University's medical department is the initiator and origin of China's new discipline of medical technology, and Peking University's medical technology discipline team is constantly growing and maturing in the process of the technological game of the game with the western advanced medical equipment enterprises. ” After more than ten years of unremitting efforts, Peking University became one of the first batch of medical technology first-level disciplines of doctoral degree construction units, and the establishment of the Institute of Medical Technology marks the official launch of Peking University's medical technology discipline construction work.

After the opening ceremony, Lu Yanye, Zhao Xiaotao, Chen Qingchao, Wang Yuguang, Zhang Yibao, Shen Ning, Wang Ninghua, Wang Kai introduced on behalf of the second-level discipline direction of Medical Imaging Technology, Intelligent Healthcare Engineering and Technology, Medical Laboratory Technology, Health Data Science, Stomatology Technology, Radiation Therapy Physics, Respiratory Therapy Technology, Rehabilitation Medicine Technology, and Ophthalmology and Optometry, respectively.

Mr. Han Hongbin, Mr. Wei Xunbin, Mr. Yang Zhi, Mr. Zhang Yibao, Mr. Lai Binbin, Mr. Huang Xiaoshuai, Mr. Zhou Yongsheng, Mr. Zhao Xiaotao, and Mr. Peng Zisu, on behalf of their respective disciplines and research directions, introduced to the campers the layout of medical technology at the international frontiers of Peking University as well as the academic achievements they have made.

Secretary Li Hui, in his concluding remarks, expressed his gratitude to the campers, tutors and leaders of disciplines, and wished that the students would be able to gain a lot from this summer camp and find their own research fields of interest, and looked forward to the arrival of all the students.

After the keynote speech, the campers asked questions and the experts answered them patiently, which helped them to understand the research hotspots and frontiers in the field of medical technology in a clearer and more detailed way, and strengthened their interest in scientific research and expanded their research horizons.

On July 12, 70 campers were divided into six groups for personal presentation, students fully demonstrated their youthful style from school achievements, academic results, research experience, social work, etc. Mentors from various secondary disciplines of the Institute of Medical Technology communicated with the campers and asked questions and comments. Teachers hope that each camper will find their own interests, give full play to their own advantages, shine in the medical technology industry, and jointly write a new chapter in the field of medical technology.

This summer camp was wonderful, and the campers learned about the cutting-edge of medical technology through the platform of Peking University, communicated with the famous teachers, and showed themselves. So far, the Peking University Medical Technology Summer Camp has been successfully concluded, and we hope that all the students will uphold the “generous” heart, live up to their youth, and be ambitious young people of the new era. We are looking forward to gathering at Peking University again in the harvest season.
