Institute of Medical Technology Successfully Holds Training Session for New-System Graduate Advisors

On the afternoon of April 9, 2025, the Institute of Medical Technology at Peking University Health Science Center successfully held a Training Session for New-System Graduate Advisors in Room 302, Yifu Building. The meeting aimed to enhance the overall quality of graduate education in the field of Medical Technology.
Attendees included Prof. Wang Qing, Vice Dean of the Graduate School at PKUHSC, Prof. Wang Fengqing, Director of the Degree Office, Prof. Han Hongbin, Dean of the Institute of Medical Technology, Prof. Wei Xunbin, Vice Dean, Prof. Li Hui, Party Secretary,Prof. Sun Xiaoyu, Secretary of Big Data Research Institute, as well as Liu Yinghui and Ma Xinlei from the Teaching Affairs Office. Nearly 30 new-system graduate advisors participated in the meeting. The session was hosted by Liu Yinghui.
Prof. Wei Xunbin shared his experience and insights from his own academic and professional journey, offering valuable perspectives on mentoring graduate students. Through vivid real-life examples, he elaborated on advising strategies tailored to different student types, and emphasized the importance of balancing academic expectations with individual student needs—providing practical guidance for early-career mentors.
Prof. Wang Qing, drawing from real cases in advisor-student relationships, outlined ten essential principles for graduate advisors, encouraging heightened awareness and continued learning. She stressed the vital role of advisors in shaping students' academic and personal development, advocating for individualized guidance based on student strengths and interests, the cultivation of a healthy research environment, and strong mentor-mentee relationships. She encouraged the new-system faculty to embrace progressive educational philosophies, focus on cutting-edge developments, diversify teaching methods, and continuously enhance their mentorship capabilities—ultimately nurturing student innovation and growth.
In his closing remarks, Dean Han Hongbin expressed gratitude to Prof. Wang Qing and Prof. Wang Fengqing for their participation and guidance. He emphasized that the focus of advisor development this year is closely aligned with the evolving demands of professional degree programs in Medical Technology. He highlighted key challenges in integrating practical outcomes into master’s and doctoral training, and called for advisors to meet higher standards in competence and educational quality under new circumstances.
Dean Han further encouraged the advisor team toenhance translational capabilities, and actively contribute to the "Double First-Class" development of the Medical Technology discipline at Peking University. He affirmed the significance of this training session in deepening mutual understanding among new-system advisors, promoting collaboration, and improving the overall quality of graduate training.
