Dr. Yuchun Sun is the Chairman of the Dental Equipment and Materials Committee of the China Medical Device Industry Association, the person in charge of the "Oral Intelligent Technology and Equipment Platform" at the National Engineering Research Center for Oral Biomaterials and Digital Diagnosis and Treatment Equipment, the Deputy Director of the Key Laboratory of Oral Digital Medicine of the National Health Commission, and a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

Dr. Sun's research focuses on artificial intelligence-aided design and precision bionic manufacturing of complex oral prostheses. He has published 223 papers and applied for 115 invention patents as the first inventor (including 15 PCT patents), among which 58 have been authorized. Some of these patented technologies have filled key gaps in the field of intelligent bionic denture manufacturing in China. His research outcomes have been transformed into three major products: intelligent denture design software, a dedicated 3D printing system, and bionic zirconia materials.

In 2021, the domestic market share of similar products reached approximately 20% to 40%, with more than 20 million dentures used globally. From 2018 to 2022, the total direct economic benefit exceeded 475 million yuan. Some products have been applied in 123 countries and regions worldwide.

Dr. Sun has received multiple prestigious honors, including the First-Class Award for Technological Invention of the Beijing Science and Technology Award (as first-place recipient), inclusion in the Pioneering Technology List of the China Association for Science and Technology's Sci-Tech Innovation China, and 13 scientific and technological awards, such as the Gold Award in the Medical Research Group at the First Medical Science and Technology Innovation Competition organized by the National Health Commission. In 2019, he was selected for the Capital Science and Technology (Innovation) Leading Talent Project.

He has chaired 13 projects at or above the provincial-ministerial level, including key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China and major research and development projects from the Ministry of Science and Technology (as Chief Scientist).

Dr. Sun also serves as a member of the editorial board for the Mechanical Engineering Discipline Development Strategy Report (2021-2035) by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the international journal Big Data and Artificial Intelligence. He is a standing member of the Computer Committee of the Chinese Stomatological Association and an invited reviewer for leading international journals in the field of bio-design and manufacturing, such as Bio-Design and Manufacturing.
