Dr. Xinyu Liu is a professor focused on the research of in-vivo optical imaging technology for important fine structures in the human body. He has developed a unique research approach, which includes innovative methods such as polarization detection. These methods break through the limitations of traditional technologies in terms of sensitivity, miniaturization, and resolution. Dr. Liu conducts in-depth imaging at lesion sites, reconstructing the fine structures of the lesions, which aims to address complex challenges in clinical diagnosis.

This work overcomes the limitations of existing clinical instruments, particularly the insufficient structural specificity and resolution in imaging lesions within the eye and blood vessels. Dr. Liu has developed polarization-sensitive imaging technologies for the sclera of the fundus oculi and arterial interventions, providing new tools for creating treatment plans such as precise interventions for myopia and cardiovascular interventional surgery.

As a result of these achievements, Dr. Liu has published 41 academic papers. Notably, his work as the sole first author has been published in high-level journals, including  Nature Biomedical Engineering  and  Optics Letters . His technological innovations have led to the granting of three international patents, including the transfer of the patent rights for vascular interventional polarization imaging to Terumo Corporation, a world-leading medical device company based in Japan.

Dr. Liu has been invited to give presentations at prestigious international academic conferences such as the IEEE Photonics Global Conference and Vision China. His achievements have been covered by media outlets such as Channel News Asia (CNA), Lianhe Zaobao, and the BPoD of the Imperial College London Technology Forum.
